A program born in Gabès
From & To People is a training program that brings together contemporary art, crafts and sustainable design, for young artists, designers and craftspeople from the South of Tunisia. It is run by Danseurs Citoyens Sud (DCS), from its base in Gabès. The SAGA Store is where their work meets the public.
The path
From an open call to the store
Six steps take a participant from a first meeting to a finished piece — each one grounded in the materials and the people of Gabès.
Step 01
Open call
An open call to young artists, designers and emerging craftspeople from the South of Tunisia.
Step 02
Field visits
Discovering the crafts of the South and the resources of the oases of Gabès — from the oasis of Chenini to a museum of traditional crafts.
Step 03
Residencies
Intensive experimental residencies to build personal, social and creative skills, and a contemporary artistic vision rooted in the local context.
Step 04
Material workshops
Palm fiber, smar, wool, plaster and handmade paper: learning a craft, testing the material in technical labs, then experimenting with it.
Step 05
Mentorship
Individual and group mentoring to solve technical and aesthetic challenges, from the first prototype to the finished piece.
Step 06
Exhibition & store
Pieces tested in experimental spaces, shown in exhibitions — and brought to the public through the SAGA Store.
